One foot forward: My 5 running essentials

Welcome to my running series: One Foot Forward. This is my second series on the blog and I am so excited for it! My first series was titled “Little Things” and it was all about taking note of the little things in our life and being grateful for all the good and beautiful things we have around us. It was a ten part series. If you haven’t read it or fancy a little recap you can check out the first post in the series right here:

This series will consist of five posts. I have been loving running lately and it is a huge passion and hobby of mine. Do any of you run? I had a list of posts I wanted to write about regarding running and the list just seemed to keep growing so I thought there was no better idea than to turn it into a blog series. But don’t fear when this series is over I will still post about running every so often.

1.Comfortable runners: I had a pair of runners for ages but I eventually made the change and purchased a pair of Asics runners from Lifestyle sports. There was a sale on and I got a student discount which made the bargain that extra bit better! The runners have support for your arches and ankles and have foam in them so your feet don’t hit the ground too hard. Comfort is key when running especially if you run long distance.

2. Comfortable Clothes: When I am running I like to make sure I am wearing clothes that are comfortable and not too warm. There is nothing as worse as running and feeling far too warm. I’d recommend any sort of leggings and a light t-shirt and maybe a hoodie if you are in a cold area. The handy thing with hoodies is that you can tie them around your waist if you feel too warm. I usually get my running clothes in Penneys/Primark. They’re comfortable and affordable. Their leggings are €7.00 and their t-shirts are roughly €4.50- €6.00.

3. Phone: I always bring my phone with me on my run to track my run and just to have it handy in case I get injured and need to contact anybody. I like tracking my run because if I am training for a race I want to know I am able to run a specific distance in a certain amount of time. I usually use My Tracks or Map My Run.

4. Headphones: when I do races I run without headphones to enjoy the atmosphere and to interact with the people around me but when I am training I tend to bring my headphones with me. They are white and are made by Sony. I usually listen to podcasts or music or sometimes a mixture of both. The podcasts are handy for long runs because ones like Happy Place last for around forty minutes. When I go for runs longer than that I usually switch over to a playlist of my favourite running songs on YouTube.

5. Water: This isn’t always essential for everyone but personally I like to have a bottle of water with me whenever I run. I usually take a swig from it when I have a walking interval between running. I like to stay hydrated and it helps me to keep running and not go out of breath as much!

Thank you for reading my first blog post in my running series; One Foot Forward. I hope you enjoyed it. It was quite fun to write if I do say so myself!

If you run, what are your running essentials? Are any of ours the same?

My running list is pretty much the same except for water as I tend to run a max of about 6 miles these days which that has only been a couple of times. Otherwise I am typically 3.1-4 miles as I have been on a 5k a day streak for about 8 months now. Can’t wait for the next post in this series.
